4 ways to thank your donors

It's not easy for fundraising organisations to build an active base of supporters who participate in fundraising and spreading the word about your organisation. Non-profits should be proud of their active supporters and should be doing their best to keep their supporters active. An easy "thank you for your donation or support" can already make a difference. It may sound obvious, but not everyone does it. It may sound time-consuming but it doesn't have to be. Moreover, it's time is well spent. In this article, we'll show you four ways to thank your donors.

1. A shoutout via social media (for example Twitter of Facebook)

Thank supporters and donors via a Facebook message, tweet or a shout out on Instagram. This way your donors get recognition and this can inspire followers to also participate or make a donation and be part of an online fundraiser.

2. A video

One of the most outstanding ways to thank your donors is via a video. There's nothing more personal than that. You give an impression as an organisation that you put time and effort in your thank you message and appreciate your supporters. On top of that, it's easy to share.

3. A personal email

Sending a personal email is a quick and relatively easy way to thank somebody. You can automate your email via an online platform if you've received a donation. Kentaa platforms offer these automatic emails. Here are a few tips for writing a thank you email for your donors:

  • Use a personal salutation
  • Mention the reason why you thank your supporter
  • Tell them why their support for your organisation is very important and what your supporter (with their support or donation) has made possible.
  • Mention what else people can do to help and mention a new campaign or news article that can be shared (that last one can bring your supporters right back to your website!)

4. An honourable mention on your website

There's no harm in mentioning your supporters on your website. You can do this in a specific way, by writing a blog post about someone's effort (for example supporter of the month). You can also make an overview of everyone who supported your organisation. That way, you might encourage a little friendly competition.
